Sequel to "The Robe" and somewhat better at least with plot and action. Watch for the Roman woman in the crowd walking, left to right, toward Caligula's portico after Demetrius slaughters six or seven sicarii. It's a wide shot so look closely. Someone steps on her veil (train?) as she's walking and jerks her back almost off her feet. Now that's entertainment!
And mention must be made of Jay Robinson's Caligula. It has to be seen to be believed. He was 23 when cast for "The Robe" and went on to a long career which included a role on "Cheers" and Coppola's Dracula.

Sequel to "The Robe," and every bit as bad.

A great film despite its unconvincing plot. Unforgettable march during opening titles. Magnificent sets of the imperial palace and private arena. Masterful performances, especially the uncanny Jay Robinson as Caligula. (See the nice summary in the French preview in Special Features.)
