Best beginning to a series. It is as perfect as the trilogy. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes anything.

The idea of stravagation is so cool! I wish I could live in England and travel to Talia!

Apr 12, 2005

Engaging story of time travel from modern-day England to 16th century Talia. Lucien, recovering from chemotherapy, is given a distinctive and beautiful notebook by his father. The notebook turns out to be a talisman allowing Lucien to travel back in time and space to Bellezza, a city very similar to Venice. Lucien meets the headstrong Arianna, a girl who wants desperately to be her own person rather than fulfilling the expectations that her time and culture have for young women. The two become tangled in the web of intruigue surrounding the mysterious Duchessa, responsible for the governance of Bellezza. A well-wrought, engaging and suspenseful tale that left me eager to read the sequels, STRAVAGANZA: CITY OF STARS and STRAVAGANZA: CITY OF FLOWERS.
