I hesitated to check this out as I did not want to read a sad slave story. This is an entirely new aspect as she was a "companion" to a young girl in France and they fled to America during the French/British war. The culture with the early settlers, Indians, fur traders was interesting and she was so smart and resourceful it was a great read.
