"The author of New York Times bestseller Body-for-Life for Women presents a groundbreaking, neuroscience-based program to rewire your food-addicted brain and get the body you deserve. The bodys' built-in reward system, driven by the chemical dopamine, isa fascinating adaptation: It tells us to do more of the things that give us pleasure. Creative energy, falling in love, entrepreneurship, and even the continued propagation of the human race are driven by this system . . . just as is, unfortunately, the urge to overeat. In The Hunger Fix, Dr. Pamela Peeke uses the latest neuroscience to explain how unhealthy food and behavioral "hooks" have gotten us ensnared; indeed, she shows that dopamine rushes in the body work exactly the same way with food as with cocaine. Luckily, we are all capable of rewiring, and the very same dopamine-driven system can be used to reward us for healthful, exciting, and fulfilling activities. The Hunger Fix makes this possible by laying out a lifelong, 3-stage plan that starts with a 3- to 4-week jump start to break so-called destructive fixes and replace them with healthier actions. Fitness guides, meal plans, and recipes are constructed to bolster the growth of new neurons and stimulate the bodys' reward system. Gradually, healthy fixes like playing games, meditating, having sex, going for a run, laughing, and learning a new language will replace the junk food, couch time, and other bad habits that leave us unhappy and overweight"--

Food addiction is real. Our body's built-in reward system, driven by the chemical dopamine, tells us to do things that give us pleasure: Creative energy, falling in love, entrepreneurship—even the continued procreation of the human race—are driven by this system. Unfortunately, so is the urge to overeat.

In The Hunger Fix, Dr. Pam Peeke uses the latest neuroscience to explain how, with repeated exposure coupled with life stresses, any food can become a "False Fix" and ensnare you in a vicious cycle of food obsession, overeating, and addiction. Indeed, she shows that dopamine rushes in the body can work exactly the same way with food as with drugs like cocaine.

Luckily, this very same system can be easily rewired to reward us with a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life. The Hunger Fix lays out a science-based three-stage plan that shows us how to break our addiction to False Fixes and replace them with healthier rewards. Fun fitness activities, customized meal plans, and delicious, satisfying recipes are designed to trigger the specific neurochemical cascade that stimulates your body's reward system, reclaims your hijacked brain, and supports your lifelong recovery. Energizing Healthy Fixes such as meditating, having sex, writing your own blog, or going for a walk on the beach—even laughing—quickly replace the junk food, couch time, and other self-destructive habits that can leave you unhappy and overweight.

Packed with practical tips, useful advice, and plenty of wit, wisdom, and inspiring stories of those who have successfully transformed their bodies, The Hunger Fix is a lifechanging program for anyone (of any size) trapped by food obsessions and the urge to overeat.

I would have loved to read this book through EPL. Funny thing is, after spending an hour trying to figure out why their "electronic resource" link sends you to nothing but a page with a picture and a summary (no prompts, no links to download) and reading the convoluted How To section gives absolutely no information about how to do anything other than vaguely directing you do a freading app that doesn't exist in the apple store, a list of compatible devices (compatible with what?!), and looking into their recommendations for the Adobe Editions app, which has a 1.2 out of 5 star rating in the app store, I am left wondering how in the world EPL considers itself accessible to anyone in the 21st century.
