Upon learning that her deceased mother, an artist, went through a "Purple Period," ten-year-old Noonie decides to do the same, hoping that this will bring her archaeologist father home to see her win a school art contest and that the aunt, uncle, and cousin she lives with will come to understand her just a little.
This book was okay. As an aspiring artist, it was kinda fun to read and hear about some different types of art/artists, but overall, the book didn't have a very strict storyline. As summarized on the back of the book, the main problem is that Noonie has to paint a family portrait, but her dad is constantly away and her mother died, so it is just her living with her aunt, uncle and cousin, but honestly, it isn't even that big of a part in the book. There also isn't any shocking ending to look forward to. I'd rate it a 6/10.
