Enjoying life as a bond trader, Nick Farmer risks everything with nightlife pursuits and confronts ethical dilemmas in the face of dire predictions that explode with the financial meltdown and his wife's extramarital activities.

Simon and Schuster
This instant New York Times bestseller offers a withering view of life on Wall Street from the perspective of an unhappy insider who is too hooked on the money to find a way out, even as his career is ruining his marriage and corroding his soul.

It’s 2005. Nick Farmer is a thirty-five-year-old bond trader with Bear Stearns clearing seven figures a year. The novelty of a work-related nightlife centering on liquor, hookers, and cocaine has long since worn thin, though Nick remains keenly addicted to his annual bonus. But the lifestyle is taking a toll on his marriage—and on him.

When a nerdy analyst approaches him with apocalyptic prognostications of where Bear’s high-flying mortgage-backed securities trading may lead, Nick is presented with the kind of ethical dilemma he’s spent a lifetime avoiding. Throw in a hot financial journalist who seems to be more interested in him than in the percolating financial Armageddon and the prospect that his own wife may have found a new romantic interest of her own, and you have the recipe for Nick’s personal and professional implosion.

By turns hilarious and harrowing, Ghosts of Manhattan follows a winning but flawed protagonist as he struggles to find the right path in a complicated urban heart of darkness

Douglas Brunt is an up and coming
novelist to be watch.
With the back round of wall street
at the center of this love story it makes for enjoyable reading.

first time novelist Douglas Brunt paints a vivid picture of the seductive and dysfunctional life on Wall Street through the eyes of bond trader Nick Farmer, who reluctantly realizes he is at a crossroads in his personal and professional life.
Bonus: if you want a succinct straightforward explanation of the 2008 financial crisis (and the demise of Bear Stearns), read Chapter 25!

Gosh, I wanted to like this book. I saw the couple, author and his wife on TV, and they seemed so nice. The book reminded me of an anticipated date in college. You're thinking we take the same class, we clearly have so much to like in each other. Shared experiences, none, common interests, none, sports, nope, you try the third rail of polite conversation, religion and politics, nope and nope. How did this go so wrong ?? Exactly what I kept asking throughout this read. The main character is unlikable, a "one-way" street, who uses his sister, college roommate, boss and never offers anything in return, especially common niceties, like showing some respect for his father-in-law or his own Mother !! The book is further dragged down by the amateurish "profile" of Wall St., as self indulgent dolts, with Staten Island accents !! The writing is weak and the research poor. Dharn, I can't even remember the name of that date !!!
