New Jersey indie rockers third album is also their weakest. Then again, how could they really follow their last one, "The Monitor," a sprawling, anthemic epic inspired by the Civil War? The logical next step was to record a more stripped down and straight forward record that draws on their familiar influences (Replacements, Springsteen, punk). There are some great songs and titles ("Upon Viewing Oregon's Landscape with the Flood of Detritus"), but it's uneven and would've worked better as an EP. "(I am the ) Electric Man" is 70s dude rock, "Food Fight!" is maybe their silliest song and a total New York Dolls rip and closer "Tried to Quit Smoking" gets a little wallowing. Still, this is one the best young bands out there.
