Clear and colorful photos and informative text provide a good introduction to the subject of metamorphosis and the life cycle of the butterfly for young children. The structure of the book also makes it perfect for reinforcing sequencing skills.

Zemlicka introduces the words caterpillar, hatch, molting and pupa, but disappointingly refers to the chrysalis only as a "shell."
