In a word, bland. This book has so much promise that is left unfilled. Valerie has a lifetime of experience from her start as a classical ballet dancer in the late 50's through Broadway, Movies, TV and back to Broadway. She has worked for 50 years and has met and acted with countless personalities but she doesn't share anything but banal, brief snippets. She spends most of her time on family and friends which is lovely but not particularly interesting. She shares some stories about her activism for causes but leaves out the passion in talking about them. She does talk about Rhoda as the lynchpin for most of her future acting work but not much of stories on the set or with co-stars, which would have made this book way more interesting. Valerie reads the book which, in my opinion, puts the voice with the words of the person with some emotion. I always enjoy that. It's like having a conversation. This memoir could have been so much more, if she didn't just skim though her life's experiences.
