"A hilarious celebration of the worst in baseball history: The boneheads, cheats, jerks and losers who make the grand old game so fun. From a delightful survey of batters who fell below the dreaded "Mendoza Line" to a rundown of managers who had long careers distinguished by relentless losing to a roster of players who took steroids but still stunk, Who's on Worst? is a thoroughly entertaining portrait of the personalities who deserve their place in baseball history as much as the immortals"-- Provided by publisher.
While I like this book, the "Who 's the Worst" Lists aren't very objective. Although these are supposed to be the worst of the worst, some individuals seem to be included in this book mainly because they provide wild stories.
Ex- Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu is among the top 10 Worst Managers of all time? He's here because he's one of the few managers that was heavily praised during his first season, yet was heavily criticized his 2nd season... and he also got into confrontations with at least 3 of his players. The book forgot to mention that the clueless (or heartless and insensitive) M's GM Jack Zduriencik fired Wakamatsu, who is part Japanese, on the same day the M's hosted a celebration of Japanese heritage on the field. (Zduriencik also fired/ released a player on his birthday.)
Former Mariners coach Lee Elias is also a Top 10 Worst manager, mainly because he was recorded calling Cubs fans lazy when he was their manager. Jose Lima, who had an outrageous personality, is one the 10 Worst Pitchers of All Time, even though he had a couple of great years.
