Grace loves cats. She also loves taking pictures of cats and drawing Not So Super comics. She doesn't like Sammy Stringer, a boy in her class. She's got lots and lots of ideas, and when her neighbor's cat goes missing, Grace does her best to make Mrs. Luther feel less lonely. But as the mystery of the missing cat continues, Grace's wellintentioned plan backfires, and she finds herself in a bit of trouble. Maybe, just maybe, Sammy Stringer will help her through.

I also love cats so Grace and I are kindred spirits. At times this book made me laugh out loud. I found myself relaying major plot points to my husband and son as I just had to share. The artwork in this book is amusing, the inner voice of Grace is authentic and I definitely plan to read more about "Just" Grace.

This is a really fun series about the daily life of a 3rd/4th grade girl. It deals with family, friends and school relationships in a positive way. And Grace has a cardboard cutout of a dog as a pet, so how can you beat that?

Grace is an interesting girl. Her plea to her teacher to be called "just Grace" in the face of four girls with the same name in her class turns that simple request into her nickname for the rest for the year. Just Grace like photography, cats, drawing comics and her downstairs neighbour who is a fashionable French flight attendant. She does not like Sammy (who spit grape juice on her at her 6th birthday party), Grace F. (who is just a big meanie) and being called "Just Grace".

When Grace learns that her next door neighbour, Mrs. Luther has plenty of reasons to be sad (not the least of which is regular visits from the above mentioned Sammy), she becomes determined to cheer her up. With help of her best friend Mimi, Grace makes postcards of Mrs. Luther's cat Crinkles to send to her. When Crinkles goes missing, Grace knows she has to find her before someone blames her for the disappearance.

This is a lovely early chapter book for girls in Grade 2 & 3. Grace's love of comics gives the author the narrative excuse to insert illustrations in the story, making it an easier read for the beginning reader. Good for any library or primary teacher collection.
