Lots of action in this sabotage adventure based on a real event in World War 2 including chases on cross-country skis and steam engines plunging into fiords. The romance element seemed a bit contrived and stiff (but then the main characters were divorced). Tough ethical choices needed to be made by the commandos.

German occupation forces commandeer Norway's facilities for the production of "heavy water" to use in the development of an atomic bomb. The plant is located in a narrow and deep fiord where aerial bombing would cause many civilian casualties. A small team of Norwegian commandos sneak in to blow up the plant by a small explosion. But the Germans have the plant back into production quickly. In desperation, aerial bombing is authorized but proves ineffective. A pair of Norwegian commandos execute an audacious scheme to destroy the tank cars of heavy water when they leave the factory for Germany.
