This one wasn't really worth the time. Yes, it was funny in some parts, but it felt ... clunky, I guess. Some authors are masters with words, and others, well, every word seems just a little off. For me, I thought it was a good concept, but the extreme characters and the unwieldy narration made it difficult to enjoy.

This was good. I can't say that it wasn't, and need to make that clear up front; but my overwhelming feeling the entire time I was reading it was that it was falling short of its potential. It tried to be quirky and absurd and funny and always made moves in those directions, it just never quite reached any of them definitively. And the ending was way too predictable. So I liked it, I just liked the book it intended to be ever so much more, which left me feeling disappointed.

This is a second book in the School of Fear series. Everyone is afraid of something. This summer, Madeline, Theodore, Lulu and Garrison have to again attend the School of Fear to conquer their extreme phobias. Madeline is deadly afraid of bugs, especially spiders. Theodore is petrified of dying. Lulu is scared of confined spaces. Garrison is terrified of deep water. Facing their fears is terrifying and the four students are joined by fifth student Hyhy and things starts to get even crazier. Children have to work together to save the school from a newspaper reporter with an agenda. The plot is unique and fun to read. Readers who like A Series of Unfortunate Events, fantasy, and over the top villains will enjoy this book!

"Abernathy," Schmidty mumbled in shock. "He isn't ready for the full Today experience, so no questions, guys," Hyacinth said, holding Abernathy's hand. "But he really loves music, especially my voice! We're even starting a band. We're still playing around with names, but we're thinking it's best to keep it simple: A Girl, a Guy, and a Ferret. We've even started writing our first song. It's called 'Don't Be Jealous of My Ferret.'"
