This is a 2013 documentary originally broadcast on the PBS network as an episode of the television program Nova.
As the world tries to comprehend the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut, Director Miles O'Brien investiages theories that many rampage killers are driven most of all by the wish to die, not the urge to kill others.
The film also takes you into brains to find out what region of a rampage killer's brain differs from the normal one.
It is a gripping, heart-breaking yet thought-provoking documentary.

Very well done & informative. Should be a recommended watch for anyone interested in law, be it a lawyer, judge or police officer. & a must watch for those in the rehabilitation of criminals, not just rampage killers but all killers because I imagine similair facts could be found in all killers not just the subset of rampage killers.

PBS certainly has high standards in its documentary programming, proving the overall worth of the network. In this case, the trend continues. This is an insightful, compelling, and disturbing look at the process that makes a rampage killer into what they are. Science, particularly in terms of biology and psychology, is well used throughout the program in looking at the contributing factors. A convicted killer who, as a teen commited such an act is interviewed from prison. A boy with aggressive tendencies that might well push him in that direction is profiled. And a different kind of juvenile detention facility, which adds restorative therapy and rehabilitation into the process of justice in a way that most facilities would not, gets attention during the program. Probably required viewing for those with an interest in youth justice, the effects of bullying, and the psychology that goes into an incident like Newtown or Columbine. Unfortunately there are far too many law and order politicos who show no interest in the long term causes of such incidents, or how to learn lessons that might well prevent them in the future.

I would recommend this movie for all to see. Well worth the price of admission to any theater.
