"In 1917, Jessie Carr, fourteen years old and sole heiress to her family's vast fortune, disappeared without a trace. Now, years later, her uncle Oliver Beckett thinks he's found her: a young actress in a vaudeville playhouse is a dead ringer for his missing niece. But when Oliver confronts the girl, he learns he's wrong. Orphaned young, Leah's been acting since she was a toddler. Oliver, never one to miss an opportunity, makes a proposition: with his coaching, Leah can impersonate Jessie, claim the fortune, and split it with him"--Dust jacket flap.

A fun mystery with plenty of vaudeville humor and melodrama to keep you reading until the very end. The equivalent of movie theater popcorn--not quite groundbreaking (or the best for you), but perfect for when you're in the mood. Read this if you want to be thoroughly entertained!

Light and fun read comprised of vaudeville anecdotes on the east coast and a brooding mansion situated on the west coast. Self discovery, greed, family relationships and an unsolved mystery unfold.

Great first book. Eagerly awaiting the second Silent Murders. BPL has ordered the audiobook but not the actual book. I'm hoping they'll be ordering the book

I love reading about this era. This one however falls flat on its well made up face. Not really a mystery, I could guess the surprise shortly into the book, and not really historical fiction, it adds details that are truly pedantic, I found it a quick dull read. And then to find out it is a rehash of a Josephine Tey book, I felt robbed. As should the publishing house that bestowed its award such an undeserving candidate.
