Number sense: Students will learn counting tricks, like making patterns and skip counting, and discover the ins and outs of comparing and ordering numbers. Large and small numbers are quickly put in their place -- the thousands, hundreds, tens and ones place.
Measurement: Length, weight, temperature and capacity are measured in different units with a variety of measuring tools. Kids experiment with standard and nonstandard measurement, and discover the value of using cool tools like rulers, balance scales and thermometers to help check estimates and make measuring easy and accurate.
In Geometry, students are encouraged to explore the solids and shapes around them, and recognize attributes such as faces, vertices, edges and corners. Kids compare shapes like rectangles, squares, triangles and circles with solids like prisms, cubes, pyramids and spheres.
In Telling Time, kids measure time in seconds, minutes and hours, and order events by using words like before and after. Using analog and digital clocks, kids practice telling time from the hour down to the exact minute. Concepts of A.M. and P.M., clockwise motion and time estimation are emphasized.
