Historical romance novel mixed with court drama seen through the eyes of two wives, one husband and a community. Based on true events!

The characters in the book, especially the women were well drawn. Even Henry, caught in between two women, seemed real in his decisions and pain. Everyone tried to make the best of an awkward situation - except for the judging community.

I highly recommend this book by Johanna Moran, which is her first novel. I

It takes place in the late 1800s, in England, New Zealand, then the San Francisco area. The characters go through some extremely difficult times, and when I think back over the story, I'm amazed at how humans can treat and judge others. I found myself caring deeply for the main character, and rooting for her all the way to the end of the last page.

I will certainly be looking out for the next novel by this author!
