What do you do when your knight in shining armor lives, literally, in a different world? Most American teenagers want a vacation in Italy, but the Betarrini sisters have spent every summer of their lives among the romantic hills with their archaeologist parents. Stuck among the rubble of medieval castles in rural Tuscany on yet another hot, dusty archaeological site, Gabi and Lia are bored out of their minds until Gabi places her hand atop a handprint in an ancient tomb and finds herself in fourteenth-century Italy. And worse yet, in the middle of a fierce battle between knights of two opposing forces. Suddenly Gabis summer in Italy is much, much more interesting.

I couldn't get far into this - the whole thing was painfully implausible. I'm not sure why, exactly, but from the moment she emerged from the tomb in medieval Tuscany, the story seemed like the 'dream' she thought it was. Perhaps it's just that the author glazed over all the gritty bits of that time period and focused in exclusively on the 'hotness' of the dudes (who seemed to be enjoying our heroine's brand of modern feminist sentiment and finding her all the more attractive for it).
It was an awesome idea, but the romance felt forced and awkward, and the setting for fantasy than history.
If you want to read an example of romance & time travel done well, try Outlander.
