The definitive autobiography from hockey's greatest living legend''Mr. Hockey' himself, Gordie Howe. Big, skilled, tough on the ice, and nearly indestructible, Howe dominated both the sport and the record books like no one has before or since. Over an incredible six decades, the Hall of Famer had so many accomplishments that he set the record for the most records by any athlete ever in any sport. He also achieved the remarkable feat of playing for six years with his own two sons, Mark and Marty. But Howe did not inspire generations of hockey players simply by rewriting the record books. When people talk about him, it's the man they revere even more than the player. Despite his ferocity on the ice, Howe's name has long been a byword for decency and generosity. A family man, a man of his word, a lifelong ambassador for the game, he is a true icon, and now he takes us through it all, from his Depression-era childhood and early obstacles through the ups and downs of his spectacular career, to his enduring marriage and close relationship with his children, to his thoughts on the game of hockey today. There has never been a comprehensive account of Howe's life from the man himself. Now is the time.

*Note* - This biography was first published back in 2014, 2 years before the death of Gordie Howe.

Born (1928) in the small town of Floral, Saskatchewan - Gordie Howe (aka. "Mr. Hockey") is ranked right up there in the top 100 of the greatest NHL hockey players of all time.

Howe's career in the sport of hockey began in 1946 and it endured for 34 years when he finally retired from the game in 1980 at the age of 52.

For your added enjoyment - This book also includes 16 pages of photos.

*Note* - In 2016 - Gordie Howe (88 at the time) died from a major stroke.

This is the story of Gordie Howe's Hockey career lasting five decades; but it is more than that. The story begins even before Howe started playing. It talks of his tough life in Saskatchewan and how this toughness proved useful in later years.
If the book seems to be somewhat like bragging just stop and think who is writing it. Gordie Howe owned the record books till Wayne Gretzky came along.
If you are a hockey fan you'll love this book. If you're not a hockey fan you just might become one on reading it! Regardless, a wonderful read.

quick read. the author doesn't bog down in giving histories of his uncles and aunts, great grandparents. he gives enough history of his immediate family to make sense of his life. lots of hockey stories from a golden age of the sport

I was pleasantly surprised by how Mr. Hockey comes across in this memoir. He tells his story, growing up, playing hockey, his family life, and life after hockey, in a genuine, down to earth style. The reader feels like Gordie is actually sitting opposite and sharing his story first hand. If you're a fan of Howe, or hockey history, you'll enjoy it immensely.
