When a CEO dies in a hunting "accident" during an expedition with four executives, each with his or her own agenda, Lucas Davenport investigates and finds himself caught in a web of indefinable evil whose threads lead to a harrowing conspiracy. BOMC Main.

Blackwell North Amer
The company chairman lay on the cold ground of the woods, his eyes unseeing, his orange hunting jacket punctured by a rifle bullet fired at close range. Near him stood the four executives with whom he had been hunting, each with his or her own complicated agenda, each with a reason not to be sorrowful about the man's death.
There were currents running through this group, hints and whispers of something much greater than the murder of a single man. Davenport had felt this way not long before, sensed the curling of an indefinable evil, and not only had it almost gotten him killed, it had lost him his fiancee, who'd never been able to recover from the violence of the encounter. Sometime soon, unless he could stop it, there would be another death, and then another, and Davenport couldn't help wondering if maybe this time, the final death might not be his own...

Lucas Davenport #9. A CEO is killed in a hunting accident with four of his executives on the scene and plenty of reasons to want him dead. Davenport has a feeling it isn't going to be as simple as finding a single killer.

I really like a cop who is independently wealthy, doesn't have to worry about the rules very much and can get away with shacking up with a fellow detective. Only one problem, how could he have ever become a deputy chief in the first place given his track record-oh wait he saves the taxpayers bags of money by blowing the bad guys away. In this crime scene he definitely should have shot the crazy lady a bit higher and saved society the expense of supporting her any further..

I think so far of all the books by Sandford that I have read, this is the best one. The plot is great, lots of twists and a believable villain. The Lucas Davenport character surrounded by the supporting cast strikes again
