Mara Dyer doesn’t know if she is crazy or haunted—all she knows is that everyone around her is dying in this suspenseful and “strong, inventive tale” (Kirkus Reviews).Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can. She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed. There is. She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love. She’s wrong. After Mara survives the traumatizing accident at the old asylum, it makes sense that she has issues. She lost her best friend, her boyfriend, and her boyfriend’s sister, and as if that weren’t enough to cope with, her...

I was at first drawn to the eerie cover, but when I actually read the book I found it hard to put the book down as the entirety of the story drew me in. Highly recommend reading this for those who like a little edge to their stories, but also a good mystery.

Could not put the book down. Love the characters, their connection, the content, and florida :)

Interesting concept, but I'm pretty sure the author needs some serious help if she thinks graphically fantasizing about peoples deaths like that are normal....

Regardless, give it a shot.

I had a love hate relationship for this book. It is hard now for me to review this book without reviewing the entire series, but I will try to keep my comments solely based on the first book.
I loved the love story of this book, I loved the bond between the characters, but like many critics before me I also think it overshadows the main plot of not only the book but also the series. You will not find out what is actually happening until at least the middle of book two, if not the ending of book two. Be warned.
Otherwise this book is great. It is fast moving, has lots of drama, suspense, love stories, horror and some supernatural events.

Absolutely awesome. I can't wait to read the second book.

A simple beginning that builds and builds, and becomes more and more addicting. The ending is left hanging, and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

(Just so you know, these are my own opinions, please don't be offended by them)

What is this? It's a joke I tell you, a freaking joke. It's understandable that people love it. I mean, there's a cliché romance, weak willed heroine and "compelling" plot. When I say compelling, I mean downright terrible. The book was some paranormal novel hidden by a sappy romance. And Noah Shaw? He's British, so kudos for that, but everything about him is annoying. Ugh, and don't even get me started on Mara Dyer. Did you know that Mara means Bitter? Her name is Bitter Dyer. Bitter Die-er. *facepalm* SHe blacks out every couple chapters and completely forgets her cause when a hot boy looks at her. She's far from the strong protagonist people want. If you're considering reading this book, just don't. it;s far too long, barely grasps a plot and has the most annoying character ever. I would highly recommend another book such as Asylum by Madeleine Roux or The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. Please, don't waste your time on The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer.

Fantastic book, I couldn't put it down. Each page just left you wanting more. Mara is hilarious at times and down right scary in others making her a compelling character to read. The things her mind goes through that we read about are insane, making you feel like your going insane with her. Each moment just kept you on your toes. Oh, and Noah Shaw? definitely swoon worthy.

I absolutely loved this book. It is definitely a page turner. There was not one boring part or chapter in this book, trust me.
One of my favorite characters is Noah. The way the author describes him is so perfect! He's definitely every girl's dream boy. I loved it because every page will have you guessing "What will happen next? - What will Mara do? - What's going on?". There is not one word that can describe my feelings for this book except for breathtaking. I wasn't even finished reading the book when I recommended it to my friend.

Couldn't get enough of this book! I read the entire series in two days it was so good! The plot twists just kept you guessing. You didn't really know if what she was seeing was real, or a hallucination which just made everything even more creepy. This book was great, but just wait until you read the next ones, it gets even better!

“I was warned about you, you know."
And with that half-smile that wrecked me, Noah said, "But you're here anyway.”

“You're supposed to say, 'All I want is your happiness. I'll do whatever it takes, even if it means being without you.'"
"Sorry," Noah said. "I'm just not that big of a person.”

“Is there any point asking what you're going to make me do on Sunday?"
"Not really."
Okay. "Is there any point asking what you're going to do to me?"
He grinned wickedly. "Not really."
Fabulous. "Does it involve the use of a safe word?"
"That will depend entirely on you." Noah moved impossibly closer, just inches away. A few freckles disappeared into the scruff on his jaw. "I'll be gentle," Noah added. My breath caught in my throat as he looked at me from beneath those lashes, ruining me.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "You're evil."
In response, Noah smiled, and raised his finger to gently tap the tip of my nose. "And you're mine," he said, then walked away.”

“You smell good," he whispered into my neck. He was warm against me. Instinctively, I arched back into him and smiled.
"Mmm-hmm. Delicious. Like bacon.”

“Did I just see you litter?'
'I'm driving a hybrid. It cancels out.”

“What could I say? Noah, despite you being an asshole, or maybe because of it, I'd like to rip off your clothes and have your babies.

“You're distracting,' I said truthfully.
'I won't be. I promise,' Noah said. 'I'll get some crayons and draw quitely. Alone. In a corner.”

“You could start a fire with the heat between you two."
"You're mistaking bitter animosity for heartfelt affection.”

“Asscrown," I muttered under my breath as I headed to my next class. I wasn't proud of swearing at a complete stranger, no. but he started it.

Noah matched my pace. "Don't you mean 'assclown'?" He looked amused.

"No," I said, louder this time. "I mean asscrown. The crown on top of the asshat that covers the asshole of the assclown. The very zenith in the hierarchy of asses," I said, as though I was reading from a dictionary of modern profanity.

"I guess you nailed me then.”

Jul 07, 2014

“Wait," I said as Noah slipped a book from a shelf and headed toward the door. "Where are you going?"
"To read?"
But I don't want you to.
"But I need to go home," I said, my eyes meeting his. "My parents are going to kill me."
"Taken care of. You're at Sophie's house."
I loved Sophie.
"So I'm...staying here?"
"Daniel's covering for you."
I loved Daniel.
"Where's Katie?" I asked, trying to sound casual.
"Eliza's house."
I loved Eliza.
"And your parents?" I asked.
"Some charity thing."
I loved charity.
"So why are you going to read when I'm right here?”
