Granted near-unfettered access to the notoriously insular Studio Ghibli, director Mami Sunada follows the three men who are the lifeblood of Ghibli - the eminent director Hayao Miyazaki, the producer Toshio Suzuki, and the elusive and influential "other director" Isao Takahata - over the course of a year as the studio rushes to complete two films, Miyazaki's The Wind Rises and Takahata's The Tale of The Princess Kaguya. The result is a rare "fly on the wall" glimpse of the inner workings of one of the world's most celebrated animation studios, and an insight into the dreams, passion and singular dedication of these remarkable creators.

I found it boring, especially watching these men sitting in meetings, talking about marketing, etc., getting their photographs taken - there were less than 5 minutes of actual animation, right at the end.

If you are a fan of director Miyasaki and want to know a bit more about the inside of Studio Ghibli and the director's daily life, this documentary will do the job. Otherwise, you will find it boring. So be warned.

It did make me sleepy. It was slow paced. But the documentary is still worthwhile. The little conversations with Hayao Miyazaki, his insights and quirks were the most interesting parts to me. It was sweet. I have seen most of the Studio Ghibli films and this gave them a new context.

Too slow & not my thing stopped after 20mins

A very long drawn out documentary that is not all that informative or interesting. Too bad, because there is a lot going on in that studio and Miyazaki's life that are not explored. However, there are some gems - but you have to wait for them.

I've seen The Wind Rises (Mayazaki) and Grave of the Fireflies (Takahata) but knew nothing about Ghibli studio. I'm not much of an animation fan, but I found this doc to be very interesting - a study of the microcosm of a workplace and its star players.

Not bad. It's a very light look at pretty much every aspect of Ghibli. Feels a bit contrived and staged at times...even a bit slow too.

This documentary is more a look into the daily life of Miyazaki at Studio Ghibli. It was interesting enough, but it had less production than I expected (seemed a bit low budget).

Mostly focuses on Hayao Miyazaki. A bit somber as Studio Ghibli was beginning to fall apart in 2013 when the doc. was made. Interesting look into how animation is made and the complex and contradictory nature of Miyazaki himself.

An extraordinary documentary of a famous Japanese anime artist and the studio he works in. Now to watch Sprited Away and The Wind Rises.
