Jackson and his family have fallen on hard times. Since his Dad became ill and his Mom lost her teaching job, things have been hard for the family. When Jacks' imaginary friend, Crenshaw, appears Jacks worries that the family will become homeless once again. I love the way the author deals with the issues faced by Jacks and his family. Really a magical look at coping and growing up.
