A gifted rider in a world where ladies never race, Maggie Linden is determined that her horse will become a champion. An Irishman far from home, Cullen McGrath left a once prosperous life in England because of a horse racing scandal that nearly ruined him. He's come to Nashville hoping to buy land and begin farming, determined to stay as far away from thoroughbred racing as possible. When Maggie's father makes him an offer he shouldn't accept, it includes one tiny detail-- and now Maggie must marry a man she's never met.

This is the second book in this series from this author. There is a lot of emotion in this story. The characters are very rich, and the descriptions are wonderfully vivid. This book made me tear up more than once, and it taught me a few things I didn't know about the American civil war. It is definitely a page-turner, and I would recommend it for those who enjoy a subtle romance and a strong female protagonist.
