It’s been years since I’ve read a Stephen King novel and I was a bit reluctant to restart with this one, especially since I’ve seen the movie several times and really loved it (I didn’t want to be disappointed by the book). It was actually a refreshing reminder of King’s exceptional storytelling abilities. If you loved the movie and wanted more in the way of background of the characters, motivations, history, you will find many answers here. How did Brutus get his nickname, what was Delacroix’s crime, where was Jingles hiding in the restraint room? Finally what are Paul Edgecombe’s final thoughts to the reader? (submitted by MB)

Cannot express how good this book is. Well written, keeps you interested until the end, and gives you one of the most heartbreaking, tear jerking endings ever written.

Stephen King is my favorite author, and this is no doubt a great book, but i found it very slow. Things just start to happen for me on page 200.

I would like to apologize to the library for possibly ruining their book. I didn't think I would cry so much.

Best book and best movie ever.

Does anyone remember that The Green Mile was released as a serial novel when it was first published? It was in six parts or something like that. I would read a portion and then have to flippin' wait to find out what happened next. The thought of putting up with that now, at a time when it seems like if a few more dollars can be squeezed from a buyer then let it be so, it's unthinkable if I can avoid it. But back when I was a teenager, I got a kick out of the thrill and surprise of waiting. It also helps that The Green Mile is one of Stephen King's better novels.

An outstanding novel, orginally written in 6 different installments. This book brings out a variety of emotions in the reader, from laughter to a huge sense of sorrow. One of the best Stephen King has ever written, in my opinion.

I remember reading this in the little serialized books, and eagerly waiting until the next one came. I loved this story. My husband saw the movie, and I told him I read the book back in the 90's when it first came out. I loved the movie, too, but of course, the book was better in my opinion. Just couldn't see Tom Hanks as Paul Edgecombe, however, in my mind from reading the serials, I had a different image. It was good to see things visually in the movie, though that I couldn't understand in the book. Its on my list to re-read sometime.

I read this book long before there was any talk of making a movie from it. To date I have refused to watch the movie for fear it would ruin my positive memory of reading this book. I couldn't put it down. A haunting read.

You may have seen the movie -- but the book is better!
