I loved this book because I'm a quarter Mexican and I celebrate the day of the dead. I also like because it's all about facing your fears.

Catrina Allende-Delmar, an anxious tween, is not too thrilled about moving to a new town. Bahía de la Luna is cold, windy, and foggy, but she understands that the weather there is better for her little sister Maya, who has cystic fibrosis. When her new neighbor, a boy named Carlos, tells them that the town is full of ghosts, Cat is terrified but Maya is determined to meet one! Will Maya’s wish to meet a ghost be granted? Will Cat meet a ghost? And will she, as Maya likes to say, “just go with it”?

This was another fantastic graphic novel by Raina Telgemeier. It's her usual realistic fiction but with a touch of magical realism. The illustrations are vivid and wonderfully reflect the characters’ emotions as well the the town’s blustery climate. In “A Few Notes about Ghosts” at the end of the novel, a quote from the author is a perfect summary of the novel’s overall theme: “Making peace with your ghosts is as profound as the idea of life itself. And at the end of the day, love transcends life and death.”

Cat’s family has just moved to Bahía de la Luna, leaving behind their life in southern California. Cat is sad to be separated from her friends, but the coastal weather will be better for her sister’s health. Maya has cystic fibrosis, and the cool seaside air may help her struggling lungs. Bahía de la Luna turns out to be haunted, and the residents of the town take living alongside ghosts for granted. This terrifies Cat, but Maya is determined to meet a ghost for herself. Unfortunately for Cat, their new neighbour Carlos knows all the best spots as the local tour guide, including the abandoned mission. In order to help her sister, Cat will have to face up to her own fears.

ok... i decided to do this book for my book recommendation... and here's my summary...

The book, Ghosts, by Raina Telgemeier is about an 11 year old girl named Catrina, or Cat, who is unhappy to leave her friends behind for Bahía de La Luna, California. Cat’s sister, Maya, is sick with cystic fibrosis. It is a disease with breathing and digesting with no cure to fix it, so their family moves to Bahía where the ocean helps her with her breathing. Cat and Maya are out on a walk, when they bump into a boy named Carlos who lets out an old secret: there are ghosts in their town. Cat wants nothing to do with them, but Maya sets her heart out to meet one. Carlos agrees to take them out on a ghost tour and Maya finally gets her chance to meet the ghosts. Then, something goes horribly wrong on their trip and Maya is quickly rushed to the hospital. Cat is now terrified that the ghosts will take her sister away. But when the time the ghosts reunite with their loved ones comes, Cat must learn to set aside her fears for her sister’s sake and for her own.
