OMG So good.

These books just keep sucking me in. No matter how long it is between books I fall right back into the storyline, right back into the world and the characters.

I love that Rhodes has written this series so thoughtfully. Each installment has it's own complete plot that is engrossing and mesmerizing. Most sequels, I've found, lack this in favor of building up to the conclusion. But Rhodes has created a series where each group of character and each plot line can be fully explored.

Cleo and Magnus! Finally! I could have screamed at the end of the last book and am so glad at the character arc Rhodes has written. I love that she kept the fieriness and spark while slowy realistically, moving them toward the inevitable.

Amara...I despise her. But I love to hate her. So very rarely are female characters written into villainy without some redeeming feature. Even Melenia was driven by love for Kyan to do all those terrible things. But Amara is pure in her deviousness. She is ambitious, and while she occasionally suffers from guilt, she is ruthless. Just like the guys. I appreciate this as most authors avoid having outright horrible female characters. I absolutely love her deceitfulness, and her lack of remorse. She isn't doing any of this as a poor, martyr'ed girl who simply must save the world. Nope....she just wants to own it.

I did struggle a bit with Jonas and Nic. Jonas just seems a little stuck in the same grind. He is endlessly shortsighted and hasn't really shown much growth for me. Nic is just getting annoying. I love that Rhodes is providing a peek into what is surely a common struggle in the LGBT community, but the character is just flat for me. And this nonsense he is stiring up with Taran just makes me mad....right when Cleo and Magnus have gained clarity. I feel like he has had plenty of opportunities to build and grow. To mature into being an important character toward the plot and for Cleo. But his relentless hatred and anger, without any break, is tiring. It's understandable in many ways but at some point you expect the characters in this plotline, living in this world, to stop thinking about what they want for 0.2 seconds.

Lucia had a wonderful arc in this installment and it reay demonstrated her growth. She travelled through all the stages of grief and was able to extract something from each. She makes terrible choices in this installment, but that is to be expected with the circumstances. I am looking forward to her growth in later installments.

Kyan...jeez what a nightmare that guys is gonna be. Bodes well for the action in the next book but holy crap!

I must admit, this book belonged to Cleo and Magnus. And I utterly adore Magnus, so obviously I loved the book. Those two have come so far and I am both excited and terribly scared for their future. As soon as I finished this book I put a hold on the next one at my library. Everything else on the to-read list can wait.
