When caterer and amateur sleuth Faith Fairchild gets a call from Max Dane, a legendary Broadway producer planning his seventieth birthday party, she is intrigued. As they discuss the party's menu, Max reveals that one of his guests is planning to serve up a vastly different dish: murder. Faith's only clue is a sinister birthday gift Max received the week before--an emtpy casket sent anonymously, containing a twenty-year-old Playbill from his final, and only failed, production, Heaven or Hell. In response, Max has drawn his guest list from the show's cast and crew, in what may become a deadly reunion. As an ice storm brews overhead and the guests begin to arrive, Faith must keep one eye on the menu and the other on her host to prevent his birthday bash from becoming his final curtain.

What I liked about this mystery is its like Agatha Christie mysteries and it’s got great elements of the board game, Clue. And of course, having a chef as the detective is always fun because there will be great descriptions of food.

Always love the books in this series and the characters are like old friends. The plot was a little simple in this one, but the characters are what makes me want to read each and every one of them.

I agree with the prior comment. I love this series, and overall the books in this series are 4-5 stars. This book is not up to the author's usual standard. I enjoyed getting caught up on the lives of Faith and her family and friends, but the plot of this book was less appealing, and I did not care about the extra characters who appear only in this book. I found the ending abrupt and unconvincing. So my recommendation is to start at the beginning (The Body in the Belfry) and read the series in order; most of the books are much better than this one. I especially enjoy the books that take place on Sanpere Island, a fictional island off the coast of Maine. This author knows Maine (where I grew up).

I really like this series but this one misses the mark.
