I quite enjoyed this final episode in the Xenogenesis series, in which one of Lilith's younger children begins to mature, surprising everyone by developing into an ooloi (the neuter gender), rather than the male everyone had been expecting. As the first of its kind with the potential to genetically alter others, intentionally or otherwise, the rest of the Oankali aren't certain what its fate should be. The plot resolution in the final 1/4 came together far too easily, which was both unbelievable in light of the rest of the story as well as somewhat unsatisfying, but overall this book was better than the second nearly as good as the first.
